Thanks so much for sharing this; this, too, has been a problem for me. Of course since Christ gave credence even to the book of Job, then I think we must, too. But how do we know about the NT? Is some of it not cultural? Like the women's hair thing; women speaking, etc.? I'm glad to hear someone else is struggling with this.

Well, DO, you didn't answer my question about Jesus..... LOL Being God made known to us in human flesh, don't you think He would have said something if the Old Testament was not correct or shouldn't be relied upon?

I may not get here much with everything going on....

Excellent scripture to end your thoughts. Glad to see I inspired a blog post!

It can be easy to set aside or rationalize away warning signs. The services, for many of us, were exciting & full of emotional events. It 'had' to be us if we were doubting or questioning something. After all, we were new and without as much knowledge and we placed too much emphasis on any experiences we had there.

Yeah...

There is a delicate (some would say dangerous) line to be toed. There is a point where the Bible isn't all-knowing and omniscient YET at the same time there is the need to realize that it is important. Otherwise you are lost... not as in going to hell but without compass.

I have yet to find my way to a place of complete and utter belief, but, then, isn't that what faith is all about?

Great post...

What do you do with the fact that the author of Jude quoted writings that were not included in the canon? Or that Paul actually quoted other philosophers in some of his letters? Or what about the Apocrypha, that are included in the Catholic Bible, and were once included in the protestant one as well? I am not trying to make the Bible of no value, but I think that maybe people focus too much on the writings and not enough on God himself.

Besides which, I think Jesus had an unfair advantage over us. (The whole omnipotence thing).

As for your other question, I think exploring that would make a good blog entry.

Thanks for taking the time to come here and read my musings and share your thoughts on them! That goes for you too AJ! :)

What do you do with the fact that Jesus Himself read from and quoted the Old Testament? If it were simply of man, would He not have said so?

Also, consider that you may have had warnings during your UPC days. I know I did and either didn't recognize them or ignored/rationalized them.

Just some thoughts to consider.
